Family
Mine is my home
They are my querencia
They are where I find comfort
Mom, Dad, Collin, Rocky, & Lulu
I feel most at home when I’m with them

My tabby cat Lulu
Bites me
My cockapoo dog Rocky
Is neurotic
My brother Collin
Is reserved
My dad Toby

Is always at peace
My mom Jana
Is a little wacky
But I love them and they love me

Pancakes for breakfast
Lazy Sunday afternoon
Movie night
Eating dinner on TV trays

Ping pong tournament

Querencia is home
Querencia is belonging
Querencia is were I find my smile
Surrounded by these people and pets is where I find it all

Querencia Free Verse Poem

At the beginning of the semester, we read a piece called The Meaning of Querencia. In this piece, a girl talked about what described home for her. After reading this girl's work, we did a short, five minute free-write in our daybook. In my free-write, I wrote about when and where I feel most at home. This is anywhere when my is family around. They make me feel the most at home. I turned this free-write into a free-verse poem that tells the same story, just in a different genre. Push the blue button to read the Querencia text we read in class.
